Midwest Living Review
Whether you’re tucked into a cozy corner with a walleye sandwich and the Vikings game on the TV overhead or sipping a cold beer overlooking the grand walkway leading to Gull Lake, it's hard not to linger at Northwoods Pub. Within Grand View Resort Lodge, the setting can be particularly beguiling in the summer with lush hostas and impatiens lining illuminated paths between lakeside cabins. Seats on the terrace allow diners to take in the view, including the distant glitter of water through the pines.
In keeping with the North Woods theme, two of the more popular menu items feature walleye. You can’t go wrong starting off with creamy walleye chowder ($5), laced with sweet corn, bacon and skin-on potatoes. The broiled walleye filet with tangy remoulade on grilled ciabatta ($13) is delicious as well, and the super-crisp, perfectly seasoned fries are quite possibly the best in the area. Need more to satisfy a bigger appetite? The double-patty Paul Bunyan burger ($16) packs a wallop with a full pound of meat, onion rings, four cheeses and bacon.
The menu changes somewhat each season, adding lighter options like citrus chicken salad in the warm-weather months. All in all though, the list of choices stays short and sweet with a few appetizers, sandwiches, salads and soups.
