Midwest Living Review
Every suite has a balcony or deck with a view of Lake Superior at this three-story hotel perched practically on the shore. The views of Artists' Point (a peninsula that extends into the big lake--you can hike there from your suite) and the village of Grand Marais (fishing-village-turned-artists'-enclave) aren't anything to sniff at, either. East Bay Suites puts you right in the heart of the village of Grand Marais, a walkable town with 600 year-round residents that's chock-full of shops and restaurants, plus it maintains a respectable calendar of events. Whatever you're looking for in town--a dogsledding trip, moose-sighting tips, recreational equipment rentals--the knowledgeable and helpful East Bay staff can get you set up. The hospitality (a tradition stretching back more than 100 years) combined with the excellent location draws repeat guests. Seven styles of suites (from studio to three-bedroom), are fully loaded with kitchenettes or full kitchens with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. Putting your hands on ingredients is easy, too, as the Cook County Whole Foods Co-op is next door. Some suites are dog-friendly.
