Midwest Living Review
Chambers offers an outstanding stay whether you're a devotee of contemporary art or are looking for a prime downtown location. The hotel's 60 guest rooms and suites occupy five levels of two historic buildings literally across the street from the Orpheum, Pantages and State theaters in Minneapolis's Hennepin Theater District. Plus, it's an easy walk to Nicollet Mall's blocks of shops, galleries, clubs and restaurants. Works of art in themselves, guest rooms are chic and very comfortable; some have balconies. Amenities include iPod dock, Wi-Fi, plus plush bedding and little comforts like quality bath products, bathrobes and slippers and a free paper. We loved this in winter: The bathrooms have in-floor heat. This is a luxury art hotel (with a full-time art director), so a unique piece of art hangs in each room. In all, over 200 works from the hotel owner's private collection are on display, including many from the edgy Young British Artist movement. If you see something you just love, the artwork is for sale. Throughout the year, the Burnet Gallery area of the hotel hosts special exhibitions. Another bonus: Guests get free access to the Walker Art Center, a $10 value. If you visit in winter, check out the seasonal work of art in the courtyard: a bar made from glittering, 300-pound blocks of ice. The hotel's D'Amico Kitchen serves casual, contemporary Italian for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.
