Midwest Living Review

This enchanting B&B is the perfect spot for a destination event or just a quiet weekend getaway.

The million dollar view, acres of whimsical gardens, the hum of the countryside (complete with a moo here and a moo there) and an unpolluted night sky are just some of the reasons this 1870 B&B is a destination hot spot for weddings, anniversaries and other celebratory milestones. Guests can choose from a variety of over-the-top rooms or go for a more adventurous option in the Garden Cottage. This shabby-chic sleeping cabin doesn't come with heat or a private bathroom, but you are nestled among gardens full of romanatically lit fountains and statues. One of the draws and drawbacks of this B&B is its packed-to-the gills decorating style. The cherubs, giant roosters and random farm equipment provide plenty to look at but at times can put you into sensory overload. With that said, your senses will love the food. Whether it's the super-creamy truffles or chocolate-drizzled Granny Smith apples awaiting you in your room, the gourmet French toast breakfast or the on-site three- or five-course dinners, the food will leave you begging for more. One last thing to note--this enchanted destination is not equipped with TV's or internet service. At best, you might get a cell signal.

Met the owner & wedding coordinator & everything was promised to the bride, groom & parents when the meeting was over,$1,000 deposit was requested to hold the date of 8-8-15 for 375-425. A May tour meeting was arranged. The coordinator was called after not showing for 45 minutes, she stated she was not coming & had something else to do. We took a self-guided tour where only a large, open hillside was available but declining that could cause accidents. The barn for rain backup looked like it hadn't been opened in a couple of years & was stocked with junk. The Roost would never hold our size wedding as maybe 10-12 round tables & if the tent was used, maybe another 150 for 270? No parking in yard & driveway would need a shuttle. We wrote to the owner & coordinator that it was just not going to work,no response. A second letter stated we felt we had been misled & over promised & the right thing to do is return the deposit, not a word again. Would you really trust & work with people like that?
