Kaleidoscope an Artists' Gallery

Not knowing what you might find at Kaleidoscope an Artists’ Gallery is all part of the fun. It could be a crisp photo of a red autumn leaf across the back of a glossy guitar, a bracelet made from vintage buttons or acrylics, or pastel and watercolor paintings. Common subject matter includes elegant blue herons, white water lilies and the rolling terrain found throughout the Minnesota Glacial Lakes region stretching roughly from Willmar to Alexandria.

About 10 artists display their work here. Banner Oak Pottery runs a kiln on the property; visitors can find plenty of pottery bowls, plates, platters and teapots, along with functional art such as rounded striped baskets and tabletop quilts. Among the standout items ­are Carolyn Olson’s quilted African batik portraits enhanced with beads for an intriguing multidimensional effect.

The gallery stays open year-round, but call ahead as seasonal hours can be limited. Extend the visit by exploring a handful of other local shops, nearby Sibley State Park, Glacial Lakes Winery and Johnny Appleseed Orchard.
