Midwest Living Review
Blue Heron B&B offers five-course dinners for guests and the public in an intimate four-table dining room with a view directly onto Fall Lake. Maybe you'll see a loon on the water while you eat your roast duck! The meals -- priced between $35 and $40 -- begin with an appetizer such as a cheese pastry puff, with gouda, feta and mozzarella baked inside a light, crispy shell. Next comes a salad of mixed greens with a house-made dressing and a warm, crispy baguette baked in the kitchen. After a palate-cleansing sorbet, the main entree choices range from baked walleye, steak and vegetarian pasta to a nightly special that could be marinated roasted lamb, hickory smoked elk roast or baked duck breast with currant sauce. Dessert options include a lemon-ginger creme brulee, chocolate mousse with raspberry-swirled shortcake and chocolate lava cake. Coffee, tea and soda are included in your meal. Wine is available for purchase. The dining room seats only 12 people, so a quiet meal is assured with prompt attention from the waitstaff. And where else could a good tip for your waiter be reciprocated with a hot tip on where the walleyes are biting!
