Northern Grounds

Considering that it's from an independent coffee shop, the brew at Northern Grounds is only decent. But, the food is great. The place is known for panini sandwiches and scrumptious desserts. We can testify for the Texas toast French toast, scrambled eggs, hash browns and sausage cakes -- all of which were perfectly prepared and not overly greasy. Impatient diners might want to consider going elsewhere. Long lines and single-counter service sometimes make for a wait, but most folks don't seem to mind. Rotating displays of local art are a welcome break from Ely's signature North Woods decor.
