Midwest Living Review
The canvas Duluth pack is as central to North Woods adventure as broad-headed axes and bug spray. The famed bags are the traditional way to carry gear on canoe journeys into the Boundary Waters; their signature straps let you carry them through woodland portages between lakes. On a visit to the Duluth Pack retail store in Duluth's Canal Park, you can, of course, pick up a Duluth pack. But the store offers a wide selection of goods that appeal even to those who never venture off the pavement, and anyone traveling the North Shore should enjoy the outdoors vibe of the store. True outdoor nuts can stock up with the store's selection of hard-core gear, which includes sleeping bags, backpacks, cooking gear, water purifiers, and even big ol' axes and saws. More urban-oriented shoppers will enjoy browsing the big selection of T-shirts, active wear (think lots of quick-dry material) and briefcases. One of our favorite parts of the store is the corner by the stone fireplace (guarded by an enormous moose head above), where shelves of books for sale encourage shoppers to take a seat and browse. With all the volumes available to suggest hiking and canoeing routes around the area, a trip to the Duluth Pack store just may inspire a new adventure for the rest of your vacation.
