Midwest Living Review
Family-owned Cold Spring Bakery hits the sweet spot, whether you’re craving traditional staples like old-fashioned doughnuts and novelty cookies or something more special such as oversize éclairs, mocha cakes or chocolate dreams—slabs of chocolate cake heaped with rich mousse and dipped in a fudgy coating.
Go as a group and order several items to taste a little bit of everything. Kids can spend inordinate amounts of time zeroing in on the delicious sugar cookies in the shapes of baseball shirts, watermelon slices, summer flowers, the state of Minnesota and more. The crisp, dense oatmeal cookies and nutty Swedish Dreams are among fan favorites, as are the fruity pocket cookies, caramel walnut bars, seasonal cashew brittle, glazed trail mix and moist mocha cakes encased in icing and rolled in salty crushed peanuts. You’ll even find truffles and decorate-your-own cookie kits with seasonal cutouts and colorful frosting to pipe across them.
The bakery also features breakfast pastries like cake doughnuts, fresh buns and breads, but the expansive dessert selection is really its claim to fame. The reasonable prices start at 35 cents.
