The Hen House

Follow the signs to this unusual gift shop about 1-1/2 miles south of Grand Marais. It's a self-serve operation: Drive past the house and park near the chicken coop (watch for free-ranging chickens in the yard), stroll through the cottage-style garden with a fountain, and let yourself into what looks like a farm building featuring folk art-type characters, candles, wall hangings, decorative items and holiday decor. If you make a selection, just jot down the item and the amount on the notebook provided at the exit and leave the appropriate amount of cash for owner Deb Hoffenberger.
