Time and the River

Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Ernest Hemingway were among the first to visit the North Branch Outing Club on the banks of Michigan's legendary fly-fishing river, the Au Sable. Today, the club continues its tradition as "a place you can leave the rest of the world behind" with guests like John Hazeltine and his son Cole. Watch the story of how father-son trips inspired Cole to choose a profession and carry his fly-fishing heritage into the future.

I grew up in a little cabin on the Au Sable river. As a writer, I have often recanted that experience for the imagery I needed in a scene or depiction. The floats on canoes, the plentiful trout, and the beauty of this river was unparalleled for a kid of twelve. We left in the fall and went back to Mt. Clemens for the winter months, but come spring we were back on the river. Thanks for the wonderful memories.
