Midwest Living Review
Good pizza. Fun atmosphere. What else can you ask for in a pizza joint? Silver Beach Pizza occupies an old train depot at the base of the bluff that marks the beginning of Silver Beach. The depot, which still serves Amtrak customers a couple of times a day, is near the new Silver Beach Carousel and the Whirlpool Compass Fountain, where kids play in the spray in summer. In warm weather, the pizza place rolls up its glass doors so diners on the patio (which includes a full bar) can enjoy lake breezes and watch the action at the fountain. Customers who prefer dining indoors find a classy dining room marked by lots of stone, including a hearth-style stone backdrop to the bar. Oh, and the pizza is plenty tasty. Those with strong preferences in crust should note it runs toward the thin-crust variety. Our side salads were a little lackluster, coming with squeeze packs of Kraft dressing on the side. On our visit, the waitstaff was friendly and helpful. When you sit down, you're handed a disc that's green on one side and red on the other. If you flip it to the green side, the nearest server will immediately come by to see how they can help you.
