Midwest Living Review

Emily Tennyson
Petoskey's Roast and Toast serves up three meals of affordable, creative comfort food -- and the best coffee in town.

Much more than a coffee shop, Petoskey's Roast and Toast Cafe is also a great spot for three squares of locally sourced, inventive comfort food. Owned by Wine Guys Group, an area restaurant team, Roast and Toast serves up all sorts of Fair Trade exotic blends along with delightful sandwiches, soothing soups and gigantic breakfasts. The servings are huge, and the decor is colorfully appealing. (Folks who think chartreuse, brick red and polka dots belong on the same wall will be happy at Roast and Toast.) The prices are also inviting. Sandwiches average about $5.95. Breakfast is a veritable steal; the English muffin egg sandwich, mounded with spiral cut ham, local cheddar and farm-grown eggs, costs a paltry $1.99. Vegans will take comfort in soups like roasted garlic-tomato paired with farm fresh salads, while carnivores revel in piles of thinly shaved roast beef atop house-baked sourdough. With a steaming cappuccino, it's enough to feed the weary soul for hours Guests are, in fact, encouraged to linger, and tables at the rear are often the scene of intense Scrabble and Euchre matches. Roast and Toast also stocks vintage jigsaw puzzles, Chinese Checkers and Monopoly, inviting one and all to stay just a little bit longer.
