Midwest Living Review

Emily Tennyson
In Bay Harbor's marina, Knot Just a Bar perfectly mimes a wood-paneled nautical bar, with an extensive array of sandwiches and brews.

Located in the unabashedly artificial commercial and residential development of Bay Harbor, Knot Just a Bar is a charming and flat-out faux nautical saloon, liberally bedecked on the outside with flags, lines and life preservers. But the view from the two-story restaurant is the real deal: Bay Harbor's marina stocked with real (and very big) yachts. A large segment of the Knot's clientle strolls in off that marina. The restaurant offers 69 varieties of beer, and those who succeed in sampling them all are immortalized on the knotty pine walls and ceiling. However, true to the restaurant's name, Knot Just a Bar is, well, not just a bar. Although karaoke night is a big draw, families or couples looking for a casual meal won't be disappointed. Sandwiches and local fish offerings are solid performers, and even the salads, like a soft-shell crab creation, are fresh and attractively presented. (Sandwiches start at $6, entrees at $9.) With checked tablecloths and copious TVs and video games, the vibe is fun and lighthearted, if a bit noisy, and it seems like every adult, regardless of time, is laughing over a huge cocktail.
