Midwest Living Review
Rustica has generated quite the buzz in Kalamazoo -- quite literally. Jazz plays on the sound system, couples and small groups of friends chat, the kitchen sizzles with hot food. It almost overwhelms the long, narrow space. Even though we sat at the bar at the back of the restaurant, we still felt affected by the energy of the place. Rustica's chefs use sustainable seafood, and the bouillabaisse ($19) was a genuine treat. The cheese plate comes with three local cheeses, Rustica's fig jam, honey, spiced nuts and grilled bread ($10). The bartender recommended a buttery Chardonnay to try with it, and he was spot on ($8). Because it is a small space and so popular, there might be a wait, so call ahead to speed up your seating.
