Midwest Living Review
There are several innovative restaurants in and near the Kalamazoo Mall. Epic Bistro is one. Sadly, it was almost deserted the Tuesday night we were there. With luck, a promised update of the menu should reverse that situation. Not that what is served now is bad. It's excellent. Locals recommend the sea scallops on tarragon-scented cream corn, smoked pork belly and watercress salad ($10). The wood-fired Brie served with honey, raspberry jam, port-poached pear, bourbon fig and sweet walnuts ($8.50) was irresistible. The wood-fired oven also turns out pizzas. And the rich, creamy gelato from Palazzolo's in Fennville made the perfect end to a hot summer day. Efficient waitstaff ensure a pleasant experience in the cool, tranquil space dominated by wood, brick and snow-white linen-covered tables. Here's hoping the business thrives, because it's absolutely worth the trip.
