Midwest Living Review
This renovated park is a perfect symbol of the comeback underway in Benton Harbor, a town long known as the rougher sister across the river from quaint St. Joseph. Klock Park lies on the edge of town on the Lake Michigan shore, and a makeover completed for the summer of 2010 has turned it into a fantastic place to spend a day at the beach. There's ample free parking directly beside the beach, which is deep, wide, well-groomed and full of the sugar-fine sand the area is known for. Amenities include bathrooms, a large picnic shelter, a small playground, a few inland dunes to climb and an observation tower. A new Jack Nicklaus golf course and eye-catching vacation homes surround the park. St. Jo's Silver Beach gets most of the traffic in this vicinity, but you can see the St. Jo lighthouse from Klock Park, and Klock gets less crowded and doesn't charge admission. On summer evenings, families linger on the sand right up until the late-arriving sunset around 9:30pm.
