Midwest Living Review
We'll take any excuse to feel good about eating chocolate, and Grocer's Daughter Chocolate provides plenty of reasons. This small, quaint (and bright green!) shop is located in the sand dunes of Empire, right on the Lake Michigan shoreline. The thoroughly charming proprietor opened her doors in 2004 and takes great pride in her products -- as well she should. They're handmade, all-natural, organic and -- most important of all -- delicious. Imagine rich chocolate bars studded with natural treats, such as pecans, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds and dried cranberries. Or how about chocolate butter as a healthy, antioxidant-rich alternative to peanut butter? Dark chocolate truffles are infused with ginger, basil, lavender and other herbs fresh from the garden. The fudge pops -- about a third the size of supermarket variety and a hundred times richer -- are scrumptious and beyond filling. The shop also offers local wine and other regional gourmet food pairings. Grocer's Daughter Chocolate is Rainforest Alliance Certified. Add to that beautiful (but compost-friendly and recyclable) packaging, and you've got the perfect gift. If you feel like sharing, that is.
