Midwest Living Review
Well situated in the middle of downtown Frankenmuth with gorgeous views of the Cass River, this spartan but sparkling clean 305-room hotel pays homage to polka meister and bandleader Marv Herzog, a town native. The warm and attractive lobby holds artifacts and memorabilia from Herzog's career, and each hotel room sports a collage of photos and text commemorating a specific year in Herzog's life. Room decor is standard chain hotel -- light oak woodwork, a recliner and floor lamp in the corner, and polyester blend bedding -- and the only natural light in the river-view rooms comes from the small window in the door leading to the balcony, but there are thoughtful touches such as a small refrigerator and microwave tucked into the TV cabinet and free Internet access. An upgrade to a room with a view of the river might be worth it if the weather is amenable to enjoying the beautiful setting from the small balcony. The lobby is warm and cozy with a big fireplace, wood paneling and comfortable seating areas and, of course, polka music piped in at low volume. The nightly rate includes two complimentary beverages (wine or beer) and light appetizers for happy hour, and a standard-issue, hot breakfast buffet in the morning. Parking is also included in the room rate and is conveniently located underneath the building with secure (room key required) elevator access from the garage directly into the hotel. Rates from $125; off-season specials are available. Rates may seem a little high, but if you can fully partake in the free happy hour and breakfast, it might be worth it.
