Midwest Living Review
At the center of a busy roundabout, this greenspace is a popular downtown gathering spot.
Campus Martius Park, part of a revitalization project from the 1990s, is located where the JL Hudson department store once stood at the center of a busy roundabout on Woodward Avenue. The greenspace provides a great meeting spot, particularly for the lunch crowd in the summer, and it's converted to an ice rink in the winter. The space, while at first controversial, has become a hit. The spot also contains the original survey marker for the city of Detroit, which is marked with a granite compass rose in the middle of the park.
