Midwest Living Review
Performance Network has been an Ann Arbor institution since 1981, and it solidified its commitment in 1999 when they built a new theater in the Kerrytown section of downtown. Although the theater itself is small--just 136 seats--this company's ambitions are big. Part of the National New Play Network, they commit to doing at least two new plays--either Michigan, national or world premieres--every season. They also do productions that may be more familiar to theater-goers, such as "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Doubt." Their topnotch acting talent does well with both old and new works, and ticket prices are reasonable--$27 to $41 depending on the time/day of the show. While the main focus is professional theater, PNT also offers children's theater, theater classes, acting and dance workshops, apprenticeships and summer internships. Every year, they hold the Fireside Festival of New Works.
