Bettendorf, The Abbey Hotel Built in 1912, this former monastery, perched atop a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, was home to Carmelite nuns for 65 years. Today, the elegant European-style hotel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, welcomes visitors to relax in 19 plush rooms (each with private bath). Davenport, Fulton's Landing Thick quilts cover antique beds in the five guest rooms, papered in soft florals.
