Midwest Living Review

The Castle Inn provides elegant, romantic lodging in a beautiful riverside location.

In 1888, Burton Harvey Campbell built his lovely Wichita home to resemble a Scottish castle, siting it on several hundred acres along the Little Arkansas River. His home still remains as The Castle Inn Riverside. The inn is an architectural gem, loaded with stained glass, polished woodwork, fireplaces and elements transported from Europe, such as a 650-year-old fireplace from Greece. There are 14 guest rooms ranging from $125 to $275, including breakfast on weekends. Each guest room is uniquely themed; in the Native American room, guests sleep in a tepee. The grounds provide beautiful views of the river. Guests can stroll through the inn's restored rose garden, discover fountains or wander through a neighborhood of smaller, but no-less-grand restored houses. In summer, the porch is the perfect place to catch Wichita's Riverfest, and the cupola is the ideal location for viewing fireworks or just admiring the cityscape. Whatever time of year, we love this inn, a perfect spot for celebrating a wedding or romantic getaway.
