Midwest Living Review
A sidewalk chalkboard advertising free ice water caught our eye on the sweltering day we visited life+style, a hidden gem of a kitchen shop in little Fort Scott, Kansas. What a great way to entice people to come inside! (In winter, we hear, the offerings switch to hot coffee and cookies.) That friendly come-on-in attitude permeates this fun, welcoming shop. Brilliant blue walls are a playful backdrop for a great variety of kitchen gear and gourmet foods: tortilla presses, stainless-steel colanders and skillets, fancy olive oils, and miniature pastry shells. A six-burner gas stove, microwave and small refrigerator behind the wide countertop work hard on Tasty Tuesdays, a summer evening gathering when visitors taste dishes made from items purchased at that evening's farmers market -- free. By fall, in-house cooking classes are in full swing.
