Union Park Guest House

The stars and stripes fly on the front porch of Leavenworth's Union Park Guest House, the historic city's only B&B in a welcoming neighborhood of restored Victorian homes. The two bedrooms (queen bed in master) share a spacious bath with a claw-foot tub and separate rain shower stall. The charming home has a fully equipped kitchen, cozy sitting room, two original working fireplaces, built-in cabinets and a sun-flooded dining room seating six. Owners Lee and Shirley Stieger, who live nearby, greet guests upon arrival and come knocking in the morning with a picnic basket of breakfast fixin's. During our stay, Lee whipped up fluffy blueberry pancakes, bacon and fresh fruit. Room rates ranging from $125 to $140 per night include wireless Internet and Continental breakfast, with a full breakfast available upon request. Union Park Guest House is about 2 miles from Leavenworth's downtown shopping district and just around the corner from the regal home of railroad food-service entrepreneur Fred Harvey. Architect William Fetch lived in the Union Park Guest House bungalow while overseeing construction of the Harvey home (now a museum).
