Midwest Living Review
Located in the country (naturally!) just minutes east of Lawrence, Kansas, Pendleton's Country Market is also only 20 minutes from the western suburbs of Kansas City. That makes the market a convenient place for folks who live in the region to do their vegetable shopping. Think of it as a farmers market that's open every day of the week! For those who make a special trip, Pendleton's offers an extra opportunity -- to pick some of your bounty fresh from the earth. Follow their website or Facebook page, or join their e-mail list, for up-to-date news on the condition and availability of all their crops. Asparagus is their biggest crop, so if you're a fan, you'll definitely want to visit in the spring before Memorial Day. Throughout the growing season, you will find rhubarb, peas, lettuce, sweet corn, green beans, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes and pumpkins. Certain crops are available to harvest personally, while others are sold in the store. In addition to produce, Pendleton's offers a wide variety of annuals and perennials for the garden, as well as fresh-cut flowers. Note that Pendleton's is closed Sundays in July and August.
