Midwest Living Review
Hungry for a good slice of ‘za in Lawrence? Papa Keno's is a solid option. This pizzeria bakes up giant New York-style pizzas piled high with fresh toppings. The place is known for its pizza by the slice; the specialty choices with snappy call names and innovative topping combinations are the best deal, going at $5.49 apiece.
Try the Don Ho, topped with broccoli, pineapple, spinach, almonds and ricotta; or the Shredder, topped with pepperoni, green onion, blue cheese, roma tomato and cheese. Both feature crispy-edged thin crusts and a colorful jumble of toppings. They're a little light on the sauce, but with so many toppings, diners may not even notice. However, not all the toppings heat through evenly, so bite carefully. Specialty pizzas run $17.99 for a 14-inch to the $39.99 Papa Pie that's big enough to feed a small army.
The pizzeria is dark, the music is loud and Papa Keno's counter employees are college students not known for their bubbly personalities. A small area of sidewalk seating outside offers relief and provides a good spot for people-watching on Lawrence's historic Massachusetts Street. Or simply grab a delicious slice to go.
