Midwest Living Review
A meal at The Gathering Table leaves guests feeling nourished with hearty, heartwarming dishes. From the friendly staff to the comfortable yet elegant farm-style dining room, this place just makes you feel good. The restaurant is part of the Henry A. Wallace Country Life Center, which provides a picturesque farm setting with a large garden you can walk right up to (also the source of most of the expertly prepared produce you'll find in your meal). The Gathering Table uses local ingredients whenever possible and presents them in interesting and delicious ways. For instance, a dinner entree of Cory Family Farm lamb meatballs ($15) has a Mediterranean flair and includes sen po sei and tat soi greens, snap peas, carrots, and couscous with garlic scape and sorrel sauce. The farm salad ($4.50) is about as fresh as veggies get. For dessert, almond cheesecake ($4.50) arrives topped with a sprig of lavender. Menu offerings change frequently according to what's in season, making each visit a new experience.
The Gathering Table is open for lunch and dinner on Thursdays and Fridays; reservations are recommended.
