Once we got there, we found Sawmill Hollow Organic Farm to be a picturesque aronia berry farm located in Western Iowa in the heart of the Loess Hills.

Getting to Sawmill Hollow Organic Farm, an aronia berry farm, was no easy feat. After several wrong turns on desolate gravel roads, we finally reached the road to the family-owned farm. This narrow, sunken path was a bit scary to travel on, and there were several times we felt like we weren't in the right spot. When we finally arrived, there were no formal signs nor any indication that the farm is open to the public. It looks like any other homestead and farm, but rest assured, Sawmill Hollow wants visitors. Inside a barn perched on the top of a hill, you will find aronia berry products ranging from wine to jam. You can sample aronia wine for minimal cost, but there is no other formal presentation about the berries. Although picturesque, this farm doesn't offer much in terms of amenities. Perhaps it was an off day, but for the most part there was no ambience or authenticity to add to our experience. You can only gaze at an aronia berry plant for so long before growing bored with the encounter, which makes that confusing drive just not worth it.
