Midwest Living Review
Peace Tree Brewing Company is a microbrewery with strong ties to its roots. Named for the historic sycamore tree in nearby Red Rock, which was once a meeting place for Native Americans and fur traders, the brewery honors the history through their brand. Though the beer is a new addition to the community, their labels bring up fond memories of the past. With woodwork and rust-color walls under soft star-shape lights, the atmosphere in their tap room is fun yet relaxed. On special occasions, live entertainment brings in a livelier crowd, but on any night, you can find patrons kicking back and sampling Peace Tree's various distinct flavors. They offer three daily microbrews: Red Rambler, a red ale with malty flavor; Hop Wrangler, an Indian Pale Ale; and Rye Porter, a darker brew made with chocolate rye and Munich malts. Peace Tree's root beer is also available on tap, as well as a changing menu of seasonal brews. The brewery is open Monday through Friday 8:30-5 for brewing, tours of the facility or to purchase a growler of root beer for just $1.66. Serving hours are Thursday and Friday 4-10 p.m., and Saturday 1-10 p.m. Peace Tree doesn't serve food, but you can sit down with a $3.75 pint and order in from takeout menus behind the bar.Peace Tree distributes its beer throughout central Iowa, so you're also able to sample their brews at bars in Des Moines and Iowa City.
