Midwest Living Review
Loess Hills Woodworks, Gallaher Designs and Harvest Studio are three local artisan shops housed in the same building, located off Old Lincoln Highway in the Loess Hills. Unfortunately, these shops didn't have a huge selection on display, so our visit felt more like a chance for the artists to make a sales pitch than an opportunity to browse. Loess Hills Woodworks features high-quality wood furniture and custom cabinetry made from locally grown hardwoods. Next to the woodworking shop is a studio for Gallaher Designs, run by silversmith Barb Gallaher. Her metal rings, pendants and earrings are unique, wearable art. Next door is Harvest Studio, the working studio and classroom of Cythia Gehrie, a local botanical artist. She was working on an interesting piece using materials from nature, like corn husks, twigs, leaves and grass, dipped in paint to create a landscape portrait of nature. There wasn't much to see or do here unless you wanted to make a purchase. It might be worth a stop as part of the Living Loess Tour, but it's not a destination on its own.
