Midwest Living Review

Belle DuChene
After flooding caused damage to its original site, the University of Iowa Museum of Art has temporarily relocated to the Iowa Memorial Union.

After a devastating flood in 2008, the University of Iowa's Museum of Art was forced to move into another facility on campus. A small percentage of the total collection is now available to view within the Iowa Memorial Union. (The museum’s complete digital collection is viewable online.)

Although the venue is small and it’s a bit of hassle to find parking and pick your way through tables of students, the collection is worth the trouble. Paintings and artifacts sit in a nicely lit hall, and student employees are ready and willing to help guide you.

The university is currently scouting locations in which to build a new museum, but plans may take up to five years to reach fruition. In the meantime, the museum lends portions of its collection to Iowa City’s Old Capitol Museum and the Figge Museum in Davenport. The IMU site admission is free.
