Harrison County Historical Village and Welcome Center lets history buffs glimpse our pioneers' past, plus it offers a plethora of area maps and visitor guides.

Perched on top of a cascading bluff in Harrison County is an orange sign announcing that you're traveling on the historic Old Lincoln Highway. Right below sits the Harrison County Historical Village and Welcome Center. The center offers a variety of useful maps, visitor guides and Iowa souvenirs. It's a great place to stop and chat with the locals to find out what places are worth exploring in Harrison County. Outside the center, the village takes you on a journey through yesteryear. It's great for history buffs, but even those who aren't avid history students will find something to like. A rusty, vintage tractor lies adjacent to a little white schoolhouse and log cabin. Inside are artifacts and memorabilia from the pioneer days. A country store, a blacksmith shop and an 1868 Iowa rural school (in use until 1959) give the property a real nostalgic feel. Tours are self-guided, so you can take your time viewing each artifact and reliving the past. There is ample picnic space on the property, which is perfect for people who want to take a moment to snack or simply relax while soaking in the beauty of the surrounding Loess Hills. Free-will donation asked for admission to the historical village.
