Hansen's Farm Fresh Dairy

Hansen's Farm Fresh Dairy is an honest-to-goodness working farm. For $6, you can take a walking tour and get an up-close look at Jay and Jeanne Hansen's cows. (Don't wear good shoes, and watch your step to avoid all the cow pies.) If you want to get even closer than that, take the 90-minute hands-on tour for $10. You'll milk a cow, feed a calf and churn butter. While you're on the farm, take a look at the Hansen's wallabies, too. Built in 1861, this farm has been in the Hansen family since 1952, and it's been an independent dairy producer since 2004, supplying local shops, restaurants and schools with milk, butter, cream, cheese curds and 28 flavors of ice cream. The Hansens do not homogenize their milk. To schedule a tour, call at least a week (preferably two weeks) in advance, although the Hansens sometimes accept walk-up visitors. This is not a sophisticated tourist operation, just an actual farm that lets in visitors, but the Hansens plan to add new facilities for visitors.
