Midwest Living Review
Talk about going to the dogs! This hip coffeehouse in downtown Dubuque was once a ramshackle old building in the historic Jackson Park neighborhood. Then a dog-lover purchased it, renovated the structure from top to bottom, and opened The Naughty Dog with her beloved pooch in tow. Dogs are welcome to join their owner in the upper level, which features attractive cherry-and-black finished tables and chairs on light-color hardwood floors. Canines are also welcome on the redbrick patio out back, which contains an attractive stone "dog bar" (water fountain/dish). Pit bulls and other fighting breeds are the only dogs banned. Pictures of dogs are everywhere; the owner's dog is prominently featured, natch, with the rest being photos of the pets of her friends and frequent customers. A reading nook contains pet pubs. But enough about the dogs. The main level and upper deck are for humans only and are attractively outfitted with the same tables and chairs, plus some upholstered furniture. The restaurant's menu is pretty deep. There are all sorts of coffee, tea and smoothie drinks, plus a wide selection of breakfast items such as muffins, pastries, waffles and strata, or egg dishes. For lunch, you can order soups, salads and hot or cold sandwiches. Many of the items are made in-house. Dog treats are also available for purchase.
