Midwest Living Review
Across the street from the Hotel Julien Dubuque on Main Street, this charming shop offers the perfect place to take a break during the day or relax after dinner. The Stam family has been famous for its fine chocolates since 1913, and the Dubuque store is one of Chocolaterie Stam's newest locations.
Choose from bonbons, gourmet truffles and confections crafted in the Dutch tradition. The friendly staff is knowledgeable about its products and proud of them. They'll encourage you to sample the gelato, created on-site; flavors change daily, but when we were there included peach mango, toasted almond, hazelnut and pink grapefruit. We ate toasted almond, a delicately flavored, creamy treat with a cup of decaf cappucino and the double chocolate gelato with an espresso. The coffee was a perfect complement to the sweetness.
Chocolaterie Stam also houses a wine bar called Corked for those who'd prefer a glass of wine with their chocolates.
