Midwest Living Review

The scenic ISU campus offers shady walking paths, noteworthy museums and an impressive student union.

The Iowa State University campus offers plenty to keep visitors occupied. The Memorial Union is a beautiful building; inside, Gold Star Hall pays tribute to members of the ISU family who have lost their lives in military service. Soaring columns, stained-glass windows and bronze doors make the hall a reverential space. The West Lounge is an elegant study with a piano, lovely furnishings and sweeping draperies; the Col. Pride Veteran's Lounge holds flags and a sculpture of soldiers in action. In the union’s bottom level, there's a food court and a campus bookstore chock-full of ISU apparel and souvenirs.

The on-campus museums are also worth exploring. Check out the Brunnier Museum’s collection of decorative glass, sculptures and drawings. The Farm House Museum is one of the oldest buildings on campus and depicts local life in Victorian times. Time your visit to catch a performance at Stephens Auditorium, the main performing arts venue, or at one of the university's smaller theaters.

Paths wind past dormitories and class buildings on the leafy campus. The bells of the iconic Stanton Memorial Carillon still ring most days.
