Midwest Living Review
Ames British Foods is character-rich place to browse for gifts and broaden culinary horizons with tasty treats from across the pond. Conveniently located on a corner in downtown Ames, this British-centric shop carries an array of candies, biscuits, teas and canned goods. This is the perfect spot to pick up a few bars of Cadbury Dairy Milk or to score some sticky toffee pudding. There are also frozen noshes like Yorkshire puddings and pork pies—check the freezer for the latest offerings.
Owner Marcus Johnson originally opened the shop to cater to his fellow English ex-pats living in Ames, but he quickly realized there was a much larger market of Anglophiles here to tap into. Beyond imported food products, the store inventory includes fun gift items like pint glasses, T-shirts, flags and soccer gear. An entire wall is dedicated to nothing but new and gently used teapots in a multitude of colors and styles.
