Mount Bohemia, Michigan

Located on the northern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula near the Upper Peninsula town of Copper Harbor (40 miles north of Houghton), this resort boasts 70 expert runs and one intermediate run (no beginners allowed). Many expert runs are double-black-diamond steeps, the most challenging of rated runs, diving through glades of trees.

Mount Bohemia features a 900-foot vertical drop, the highest in the Midwest, plus two chairlifts serving the slopes. Skiers rent gear and dine cafeteria-style in yurts at the resort's base.

Lift tickets $45 (888/937-2411).

For lodging information: Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau (800/338-7982).
