Burt Lake: Michigan's Inland Secret
Burt Lake, Michigan's fifth largest inland lake, is just off I-75 at Indian River (25 miles south of the Mackinac Bridge). With 30 miles of shoreline, the lake forms a key part of the 75-mile-long Inland Waterway that stretches from Lake Huron at Cheboygan across the state almost to Lake Michigan.
The village of Indian River has retained its small-town atmosphere. Many vacationers return year after year, staying at the same cabins and resorts or camping at Burt Lake State Park. Vacationing families watch their children grow up canoeing, rafting and tubing on the Sturgeon River or fishing and swimming at Burt Lake.
