Studebaker National Museum, South Bend, Ind.
Studebaker, destined to become the largest wagon manufacturer in the world, began in 1852 as a blacksmith shop. It was the only manufacturer of horse-drawn vehicles to successfully make the leap into the automotive age.
You can read about the company's history on its website while you're planning a visit to its museum in South Bend, Indiana. You also can get a look at the museum's extensive collection of vehicles, from Conestoga pioneer wagons to President Lincoln's carriage and Studebaker concept cars.
A solid collection of links takes you to various other Studebaker sites and travel pages that will help you find food, lodging and other activities in South Bend - even Notre Dame football. If you can't come to the museum, you still can get a piece of the Studebaker tradition by ordering mugs, posters and other merchandise from the gift shop's online catalog.

This is a wonderful museum which tells a great story of the unfolding of technology in the last century. Not to be missed!
