Illinois
Hanging Upside Down On Superman Loop

Superman-Ultimate Flight

Six Flags Great America, Gurnee Top rides at this park are: Raging Bull, Batman the Ride, Deja Vu, and Superman-Ultimate Flight. 40 miles north of Chicago. (847/249-1776).

 
Indiana

Holiday World and Splashin' Safari, Santa Claus Two top wooden roller coasters, the Raven and the Legend. 70 miles west of Louisville. (877/463-2645).

 

Indiana Beach, Monticello Coasters featured here include the Cornball Express and the Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain, a popular "dark ride," with a new wooden track. 100 miles north of Indianapolis. (800/583-5306).

 
Iowa

Adventureland, Des Moines The classic woodie Tornado and two other coasters. (515/266-2121).

 

Arnolds Park Amusement Park, Arnolds Park Legend, a gentle woodie circling this 75-year-old lakeside park. 90 miles southeast of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. (800/599-6995).

 
Kansas

Joyland Amusement Park, Wichita The park and its old-fashioned Wooden Roller Coaster feel like a 1950s flashback. (316/684-0179).

Michigan

Michigan's Adventure, Muskegon The highlight of this park is Shivering Timbers, with a 125-foot drop and a run of almost a mile. (231/766-3377).

 
Minnesota

Nickelodeon Universe, Mall of America, Bloomington Ripsaw, steel coaster encircling the park. (952/883-8600).

 

Valleyfair!, Shakopee Wild Thing, with a 200-foot drop. 30 miles southwest of Minneapolis. (800/386-7433).

 
Missouri

Silver Dollar City, Branson Buzzsaw Falls, a boat-style coaster splashing through a wet finale. Wildfire, a new steel coaster looping through the Ozark woods. 40 miles south of Springfield. (800/952-6626).

 

Six Flags St. Louis, Eureka You'll find wild rides including The Screamin' Eagle, Batman The Ride and the Boss, with a monster first drop. 30 miles southwest of St. Louis. (636/938-4800).

 

Worlds of Fun, Kansas City Mamba, once the Midwest's tallest (205 feet) and fastest (75 mph) coaster, still a popular thrill. Timber Wolf, a woodie with lots of twists. (816/454-4545).

 
Ohio

Cedar Point, Sandusky Millennium Force and Magnum XL-200. The new Wicked Twister, with a 215-foot U-shaped track. Raptor, an intense inversion ride. 60 miles west of Cleveland. (419/627-2350).

 

Paramount's Kings Island, Mason The Beast, the longest woodie in the world (7,400 feet), and Son of Beast, the second-longest (7,032), as well as the tallest (218 feet). Tomb Raider The Ride, the park's newest, where passengers "fly" through the scenes and dangers. Rugrats Runaway Reptar, the first inverted kids' coaster. The Racer, a 1972 woodie. The motor-launched Flight of Fear. 25 miles northeast of Cincinnati. (800/288-0808).

 
Wisconsin

Mt. Olympus Water & Theme Park, Wisconsin Dells Thirty-seven water slides mixed with six roller coasters and eight go-kart tracks at the Wisconsin Dells' largest water and theme park, for fun either wet or dry.
