Midwest Living Review

This upper-echelon eatery offers great chops, steaks and seafood in a classy, relaxing atmosphere.

Locally owned and operated Peterson's has been garnering rave reviews since it opened in 1999 and is consistently ranked one of the best restaurants in the Indianapolis metro area. With uncompromising high-quality food and sophisticated decor, it's easy to see why. From the moment you walk in, the adults-only Peterson's pampers with friendly, attentive service and attention to detail. The food isn't cheap (you'll spend more than $100 on dinner for two), but for a special occasion, romantic meal or business dinner that's guaranteed to impress your guests, Peterson's delivers. The menu includes exquisitely tender wet-aged steaks, Kobe-style pork tenderloin so succulent you can cut it with a fork and fresh seafood flown in daily. Easily the most expensive price point on Hamilton County's Tenderloin Trail, Peterson's is a far cry from the oversized fried sandwiches you find at sports bars and most of the other casual eateries along the trail. It plays in a different league -- not at all the kind of place you think of if tenderloin is what you're hankering for. This is not to say that the version we had here wasn't top quality and excellent. Was it ever. The slices of the Kurobuta pork tenderloin were skillfully plated around a mound of wilted arugula in the center of the plate topped with an inch-thick corn cake; a roasted tomato and goat cheese reduction sauce was served to pour over the top. We would have preferred if the pork hadn't been pink in the middle, but it was still amazing nonetheless. Sides are served a la carte and are big enough to share. Don't miss Peterson's signature mashed potatoes -- a creamy melange of roasted wild mushrooms, shallots and garlic. If you're lucky, you might even receive a fanciful amuse bouche to start or a pair of white chocolate truffles with your check. The extensive wine list provides plenty of opportunities for perfect pairings, and the knowledgeable servers are always at the ready with helpful suggestions.
