Midwest Living Review
It is called a sunset cruise for a reason: The sunset is the best part of the evening. Cruising Patoka Lake at sunset means you have a lovely perch from which to watch the sun turn the sky crimson and gold. Departing from Patoka Lake Marina, a 25-minute drive from French Lick Resort, the Sunset Wine Cruise offers wine tasting inside, where tables dressed in white tablecloths seat 80. Different Indiana wineries pour each week, pairing their wines with food. The night we were there, the wine was so-so, but we had fun trying the varieties and learning about how they're made. The winery staff was knowledgeable and humorous. We aren't experts, but we didn't enjoy the five we tasted. And not many people bought the bottles for sale. (Everyone leaves with a souvenir wine glass.) For the second hour of the cruise, guests roam the two-story boat with wine in hand, taking in picturesque views of the sunset. The scenery is nice but not spectacular. Because the lake is in Hoosier National Forest, you'll see mostly forest, osprey nests and passing boaters. Tickets are $35 per person, and reservations are required.
