Midwest Living Review
The stately Midwest Museum of American Art building, once a bank, now houses works by Norman Rockwell and Grandma Moses.
The Midwest Museum of American Art is small, but it offers a surprisingly nice collection of 18th- and 19th-century American artworks. And with an admission price of only $4, it's well worth a stop. Located in the heart of downtown Elkhart, the white, colonnaded, neoclassic building once housed a bank. Following a complete renovation, the building now safeguards 2,500 works of art, with about 600 pieces on display at any given time. Museum highlights include an original painting and a number of hand-signed lithographs by Normal Rockwell, as well as original art by primitive painter Grandma Moses. You'll also see works by Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg and Alexander Calder.
