Midwest Living Review

The best and biggest names have shared this exotic Midwest stage in the heart of Indianapolis.

This Live Nation concert venue draws some of the biggest names in music and performing arts including James Taylor, "Wicked," Riverdance, Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker, Ani DiFranco, Kathy Griffin and a slew of other cultural icons. For most concert houses, the major draws are the celebrities, but that's not necessarily the case here. The Murat Centre is housed in a 1909 Mosque-like temple, so in addition to a great show, it offers a rich cultural and historical experience. The temple faced abandonment in the 1990s, but a massive renovation returned this iconic piece of Indianapolis to its original Egyptian and Arabian splendor. In particular, it's worth taking a little time before a concert to view the arched hallways, intricate brick patters, vast stained glass windows and copper roofs. One other fun fact about the Murat: In 1911, it made history by showing the first, true-color film to the public.
