Midwest Living Review
When it opened in 2007, the Flying Cupcake was the only cupcake bakery in Indiana. It has some competition now, but it is still the local favorite, with four locations in the Indianapolis area -- including a brand-new spot on the north side. All four are decorated in vintage, shabby-chic decor that will make you feel right at home. The star here is the enormous Red Velvet Elvis ($3.50), a moist, dense red velvet cupcake with baked-in chocolate chunks, topped with rich cream-cheese frosting and red sprinkles. We also love the Cheeky Cherry Cheese, a combination of white cake and cheesecake topped with cherry filling, and the Salted Chocolate Caramel, filled with caramel and topped with chocolate-caramel ganache and sprinkles of salt. The Flying Cupcake also bakes up savory flavors, such as the Hungry Lumberjack topped with crumbled bacon. You'll also find at least one vegan and one gluten-free option on the menu every day.
