Midwest Living Review

Ashley Petry
This Parisian-style bistro and Champagne bar offers upscale French classics in a friendly neighborhood atmosphere.

Petite Chou is part of Martha Hoover's Indianapolis restaurant empire, which also includes brunch-favorite Cafe Patachou. Billing itself as a French-inspired bistro and Champagne bar, it has two locations in the Indianapolis metro area. If it's busy when you arrive, just put your name on the list and help yourself to a java from the self-serve coffee bar. We started with two of the Champagne cocktails: a traditional mimosa, served with a fresh strawberry, and a lavender-infused Prosecco, which tasted like a light, refreshing soda. A small selection of wine, craft beer, high-end sodas and specialty coffee drinks is also available. Petite Chou offers a range of appetizers, salads and soups. We ordered a favorite, the signature tomato-artichoke soup ($5.25), and the crab cake ($8.95). Served on a bed of field greens and drizzled with Dijon sauce, the cake was almost all crab with just the right amount of breading on the outside. Specialties include French classics like crepes, tartines (open-faced sandwiches on toasted country bread) and croque sandwiches. We ordered a crepe stuffed with roasted red potatoes, wild mushrooms and goat cheese ($10.50). Yum. The potatoes were salty, the mushrooms were creamy, and the goat cheese was tangy. Each bite was a well-composed blend of flavors. Our other entree was the Croque Monsieur ($9.75), with Smoking Goose ham, bechamel sauce, Dijon mayo and Gruyere cheese. With thick bread and nicely melted cheese, this was even better than the ones we remember having in Paris. Petite Chou offers many of the Patachou favorites and is a nice alternative for an upscale lunch in a casual atmosphere
