Mug n' Bun Drive-In

Located on Indy's west side just a short distance from the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Mug n' Bun has been serving old-school diner fare since the 1960s. This retro hot spot offers drive-in service (just flick your headlights and a server will be right out to take your order), indoor and outdoor seating, and nostalgic neon signs to boot. Not much has changed at Mug n' Bun in the past 50 years. The menu is still full of time-honored classics like hot-off-the-grill burgers, hearty coneys and crinkle-cut fries, all washed down with super-thick milk shakes, malts and ice cream floats. The Super Burger is the signature item -- a hefty bacon double cheeseburger ($4.20), and the "Special" is a cheeseburger served grilled-cheese-sandwich-style on toast with bacon. Cinnamon sugar-dusted sweet potato fries make a memorable side. Mug n' Bun also brews its own secret-recipe root beer; regular customers know to buy it by the gallon to take home. With no-nonsense service, picnic tables, paper wrappers and plastic cutlery, Mug n' Bun is about as casual as dining gets, but the food is good and the atmosphere is old-fashioned fun for kids and Baby Boomers alike.
