Midwest Living Review

Melanie Radzicki McManus
In downtown Indy just blocks from all the major sights, this upscale hotel makes a great place to kick back.

The 243-room, 23-story Conrad lies in the heart of the downtown Indianapolis, within walking distance of many main attractions. And it offers loads of top-shelf amenities at prices that, while not cheap, won't break the bank. All rooms (from $199) come with 42-inch plasma televisions, Wi-Fi, plush bedding and marble-floored bathrooms. Guests even select from a pillow menu.

Guests wanting to splurge on a one-of-a-kind room experience can opt for one of the Conrad's four Collection suites, unveiled in 2015. Each suite is themed after a different style of artistry (Pop, Modernism, Contemporary and Surrealism) and includes original works by renowned artists. The Modernism suite contains an original Picasso sketch in the entryway. Each of the four suites contain 11-foot ceilings, spacious living quarters (up to 825 square feet) and eclectic light fixtures and furnishings replicating the theme. Special light controls allow guests to showcase the artwork in their rooms, and a built-in TV in the bathroom mirror proves that no amenity is spared in these luxe suites (from $699).

The Conrad’s signature eatery, the swanky Capital Grille, serves steaks and seafood. Hotel guests can order room service from the Capital Grille's menu, which includes breakfast specialties like lobster eggs benedict ($23). More impressive (and fun!) is Tastings, an innovative wine bar-bistro featuring several high-tech tasting stations. Guests load money onto a plastic card and are given a wine glass, then they’re turned loose to wander between the various stations and sample. Simply plug in the card, set your glass under the spout, and press a button for a 2-, 4- or 6-ounce pour. Tapas, cheese platters and appetizers are also available.

Work off any overindulgence at the Conrad's spa, pool and spacious workout room. Or check out one of the hotel's free beach-cruiser bikes to pedal around the downtown Cultural Trail. The hotel also connects via skywalk to the Circle Centre Mall, Indiana Convention Center, and loads of restaurants and attractions.
